How to Have a Kickass 2022

The new year is here, which means everybody is setting new year resolutions, SMART goals, healthy habits, and intentions to have a kickass 2022. 

Whatever you call them, so many people take part, yet very few succeed and actually stick to them.

Ugh, annoying, right? Why is it that people can’t seem to stick to the goals they set for themselves? 

We’ll tell you a few reasons why we fail to reach these goals:

They’re too vague.

Get fit, drink less, have more sex, call mom more, be a nicer human. That’s not going to cut it. We need to be more specific about our goals and the action steps we’re going to take to achieve them. 

They’re too negative.

Lose 15 pounds, stop self sabotaging, quit being so lazy. Instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the positive changes you want to make, like exercising 4 days a week, drinking more water, or getting outside for 30 minutes a day. 

They’re not personal.

They’re about how we want others to perceive us instead of what we actually want. We want to be seen as a success in other people’s eyes vs. being proud of our own damn successes. 

There’s no commitment. 

We give up at the first sign of failing, or when it gets tough. Missed a workout? I quit. Ate a cookie? I’m such a fat ass. WRONG. The only way to reach your goals is to commit to continuing, no matter what roadblocks get in the way. Hello, that’s life, roadblocks are going to happen!

So, what are we going to do about it? Are we going to keep self-sabotaging and giving up at the first sight of failure or challenge? Or are we going to commit and stay in it for the long-haul?

Get super intimate with your WHY.

Why do you want this? What is important about it? Why are you passionate about it? Who are you doing it for? Don’t make this about anyone else… this is all about you baby!

Identify how you want to FEEL.

What are your desired feelings? How will you feel if you accomplish this? How do you want to feel on the journey to accomplish it? Think about the positive changes that will come if you stick to this goal. 

Get it in writing!

This one is so damn important! This is how your dreams become your reality, seriously. Physically writing down your goals adds an extra layer of reality and accountability to make you want to stick to it. Plus, if you put it in a place you can see it everyday, you’ll have a daily reminder of what you’re working towards. 

Know that “commitment is the process of re-commitment.” 

We are all imperfect. We will stumble along the way, so the most important thing is to dust ourselves off and then recommit. Challenges only make you stronger, so don’t let them knock you down. Get back up and prove to yourself how strong you are.
